The Hungarian Puszta – a Microbiological Treasure-box

Start: 8:30, arrival back to Budapest between 15:00-16:00
The characteristic habitats of the Kiskunság region in the Danube-Tisza interfluve represents the westernmost localities of the Eurasian steppe belt. The diverse microbial communities of semiarid grasslands or the soda lakes of the region have been studied for decades; understanding the function of those microbiomes is still among the main challenging goals of our works. During the field trip we will visit one of the most famous characteristic sandy grasslands and probably we can also visit one of the soda lakes.
The habitats are strictly protected; because of this and the comfortable transport, only a limited number of people can participate on the tour.
